We are very excited to share that Lily and Kane had eight gorgeous babies on 12/23/2023… three boys and five girls! Mom and babies are all doing great and we just can’t get enough of these little ones! Specific puppy selections will take place when the puppies are approximately eight weeks old, and their Gotcha (Go-Home) Day is scheduled for Saturday, 02/24/2024.

Lily weighs 22# and is 17″ tall at the shoulders and Kane weighs 20# and is also 17″ tall at the shoulders. So we would expect their babies to be approximately around that size range (with some possibly being smaller or larger) and be classified as “petite” or “miniature” in size as adults. All of Lily and Kane’s puppies are red/apricot, and some have white abstract markings. They should all have gorgeous wavy to curly coats. Both parents are double furnished (that’s what gives them the cute eyebrow, mustache, and beard look!), so their puppies will be too. Although no breeder can ever guarantee that their puppies will be “hypoallergenic”, these puppies should be very allergy-friendly and low/non-shedding!

The puppies had their neonatal exam and dewclaw removal on 12/26/2023. It went well and our veterinarian does not have any concerns with Mom or the puppies, so we are opening Lily’s Litter Waiting List, which can be seen below. Updates and pictures of these beautiful babies can also be found below!

Lily is busy taking care of her babies and she is doing a great job! So much development happens during their first two weeks of life. Puppies’ eyes and ears are still closed when they are born, so they cannot see or hear. They also cannot regulate their own body temperature or eliminate on their own without help from their Mom. However, they do have a wonderful sense of smell and they can also sense heat. They use these senses to locate their Mom for food and warmth! During the first couple of weeks the main focus is spending time with their Mom nursing and bonding. Initially they need to nurse every hour, and then every two hours. I sleep in the nursery with them and most of my time is devoted to taking care of Lily and her babies!

Lily and her babies are all doing well! They had their neonatal exam with the vet and also had their dewclaws removed. Since we live over an hour away from the vet we start our desensitization to car rides early! The puppies are gaining weight and they spend their days nursing and sleeping. We started Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI) with the puppies when they were three days old and will continue with both until they are 16 days old.

It is SO hard to believe that Lily’s babies are three weeks old already! For a first-time Mom, she is doing a wonderful job and she absolutely loves being in the Nursery with her babies and me! Lily and her babies had their two-week wellness check on 1/6/24 and they are all doing great!

The puppies still spend most of their time nursing and sleeping, but that won’t last much longer! Their eyes and ears are now open, but they still have a lot of developing to do. Their little newborn puppy sounds are now turning into cute little playful barks and “growls”. Although their little legs are still wobbly, they are now walking (or stumbling and falling!) instead of crawling on their tummies. They can now go to the bathroom on their own and are doing better at regulating their body temperatures. Now that they can see and hear each other, the puppies are showing signs of intentional interaction with each other and with their Mom. It is not uncommon for them to wake each other (and me!) up because they want to play! In summary, they are now acting and sounding more like puppies!!

Per the Empowered Breeder protocol, we finished the Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI) with the puppies when they were 16 days old, and up until now we have only been doing minimal handling with them. Now that they are three weeks old we are able to advance to the next stages of the protocol. We are now doing daily handling exercises, noise exposure, and whelping box novelty activities, and we will increase to more advanced exposure activities as the weeks progress. We have also begun basic potty training using potty pads in their whelping box. By nature, puppies do not want to potty near where they eat and sleep, and they have already started trying to go in their designated area when they need to go potty…YAY!!!

The puppies now have little sharp teeth and are in the process of weaning from their Mom. They are more stable on their little legs and are starting to “run” and attempt little jumps. They are definitely becoming more active and have started acting and sounding like puppies! They are wagging their tails, have definitely found their voice, and are showing more intentional interaction by trying to play with toys, their Mom, and each other! It is so much fun to see their personalities develop! Mom and babies have all had their four-week wellness check and dewormings and they are all doing great!
